Botox® & Dysport®
For those of us who desire improvement of facial wrinkles, there are many options, topped by the use of the most commonly used neuromodulators, Botox Cosmetic and Dysport.
How do Botox and Dysport work?
Botox and Dysport target a cause of lines and wrinkles in the skin, repeated muscle movement over time. These prescription medicines are injected directly into muscles under the skin, where they interfere with local nerves' ability to tell muscles to contract. In time, Botox and Dysport injections help reduce the appearance of those lines and wrinkles.
What can I expect from a treatment?
A typical Botox or Dysport procedure takes about 10 minutes with minimal downtime and recovery. Pinpoint bleeding and mild swelling usually dissipate within a few minutes, and people can go about their day.
Results from the procedure are seen within a few days but may take 2 weeks to take full effect. Typical effect duration is 3-4 months.
Who performs the Botox and Dysport injections?
Dr. Jessica Saucier MD, FAAD performs all Botox and Dysport injections at Rockwall Dermatology. Dr. Saucier is a board-certified dermatologist and Allergan Master Injector, a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Where can Botox and Dysport be injected?
In addition to the more typical locations of injection (glabella, forehead, and around the eyes), Botox & Dysport can be used in other areas of the face, such as the nose (to soften bunny lines), jaw (to soften and narrow the face), around the mouth (to soften smoker's lines, reduce gummy smile, and/or elevate the corners of the mouth), chin (to lessen chin dimpling), and neck (to soften vertical banding).
-
For upper face
The areas most commonly treated with Botox and Dysport are between the eyebrows (glabella), forehead, and around the eyes leading to the relaxing of anger lines, forehead lines, and crow's feet, respectively. Skilled placement of these neuromodulators can also help elevate eyebrows and even achieve better facial symmetry.
-
For around the mouth
Botox & Dysport can be injected around the mouth to soften vertical lip lines (smoker's lines) caused by repeated muscle movement in the area. Some deeper lines around the mouth may require the injection of dermal fillers for lip wrinkles or a combination of neuromodulator and filler to help reduce their appearance.
-
For bunny lines
Bunny lines are the wrinkles we see at the upper sides of the nose between the eyes when we smile or frown, and over time the contraction of this nasalis muscle can cause bunny line wrinkles to exist even at rest. Softening the area with a neuromodulator can reduce the appearance of existing and future lines.
-
For the jaw
Botox & Dysport injected in the masseter muscle (in the jaw) can relax and soften the muscle resulting in a more narrow and slender appearance of the face.
-
For the chin
Chin dimpling is usually caused by a contracting mentalis muscle, the muscle pair that helps control movement of the lower lip. Relaxing this muscle with a well-placed amount of Botox & Dysport can help smooth the chin area and lessen the appearance of these bothersome chin wrinkles.
-
For the neck
Platysma banding in the neck are the vertical bands of the muscle beginning at the front of the neck, under the chin, going to the chest and shoulders. Relaxing the platysma muscle with Botox injections in the neck can improve the prominent appearance of these bands, a sign of an aged neck.
