What can I expect during a chemical peel?

A peel procedure takes about 10 to 20 minutes depending on the type of peel and number of layers applied. During the procedure it is possible to experience temporary mild tingling, itching, and heating sensations. After neutralization the symptoms should subside.

What happens after a chemical peel?

Depending on the peel strength and type you may experience mild to moderate skin scaling and redness with healing expected at around 7 to 14 days. Lotion or cream should be applied during that time until the skin heals. After a chemical peel, skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so limit your time in the sun and wear a broad spectrum, physical sunscreen like EltaMD above SPF 30.

A treatment series of 3 to 5 peels, with 3 to 4 weeks' time between each peel, is often necessary to achieve desired results.
